Doug Armstong’s XS650 Dirt Tracker

I met Doug about a year or more ago. I picked up a titled ’73 xs650 frame and motor from him via good old eBay for the low – low price of $100. We drove from Minneapolis, all the way out to Oak Grove to make the deal. Doug rolled this monster out of his garage while we were there. Talk about one fine piece of work. 19″ front and 18″ aluminum rear off an old dirt bike. Perfectly used Wassell tank, dual Miki carbs, bates seat, and he finished it off with one of those hard-to-find bicycle style kickers. Call it a Dirt Tracker or call it a bobber, this thing was the bike that got me turned on to xs650 chops. I actually saw this bike on ebay about 6+ months ago. Wonder if anyone ever picked it up? Doug – you rock. Midwest Moto Culture. Great job. Pleasure to add to the chopper blog.

Helmets – We Better Get the Helmets.

Helmets – We Better Get the Helmets ~ Man or Astroman?

Here’s a quick shot of an ever growing helmet collection. Helmets are a lot like skateboard decks or something. Each one is its own piece of art. We’ve got a little of everything here. There’s a metallic green BiltwellINC bomber along with the ever popular Canadian flag helmet labeled “Ellen Bourdan.” There’s a british rollerderby lid, an old black Yamaha open face Team racing and the good old Yamaha Blue MX helmet for poundin the midwest trails. Dig it.

Moto Psycho Swap Meet – This Sunday!

Gringo and Mickey’s Moto Psych Swap Meet is back at the St. Paul Armory on March 14th.

There was a lot of great stuff out there last time including the dude from LifeisFuct with a bunch of merch. Inner primary, spoke wheels, jet kits, drag pipes, helmets, leather, you name it… It’s there. Speed Club was also in attendance. We got rid of a bunch of stuff from the garage including an awesome cafe headlight and tail section from an old cafe Sportster. That’s right… Midwest cycle freaks be there.

Speed Club Think Tanked

The Speed Club gang met up last night for pints and brain storming. We hit up te Red Stag and Britts for pints. Everything in the RS is tinted red like an old porn movie and Britts is about as UK pub as you can get in the Midwest. Here’s a pic of Rusty and his Grain Belt.

With the new website and the Midwest riding season fast approaching, we needed to make sure we are covering all the local bases. We’re planning on being sponsors for a few Minneapolis motorcycle events and we’re evenĀ  considering arranging a smaller group ride way up north into iron country. We’re working on bringing in products to the website for SAE and Metric bikes and with the seasons biggest swap meet coming up this weekend, I’m personally hoping to have some great stuff to toss up in the classifieds section.

Spring Tuning in the Twin Cities

Here in the Midwest we fill our tanks with high grade petrol and fuel stabilizer while our bikes sleep quietly in the corners of our garages and minds. Once the snow melts from the roof top, it’s time for a little spring tuning. Just got my parts for a well needed tune-up. I’m particularly pumped about my new dual carb sync tool.
