Girder and Spooly

The chopper gods have passed on a new treasure. Girder and spool front wheel set up. Tire was brand new, everything looked pretty straight, the spool was still pretty clean and the price was right. It does need a stem but that’s no big deal. Dude had it sitting behind his table as if it wasnt for sale. That’s the funny thing about a swap. Sometime you gotta dig. Other times, you just gotta ask nicely. Dig it

Another Killer Swap

You know you’re in for a treat when you pull into the swap parking lot and two dudes are carrying out 6ft of vintage springer together. Invader wheels, trike frames, old school king/queen seats with good leather, hardtails, and even a pretty good triumph presence to boot. Looks like all the good little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain will have lots of wonderful things to play with. Hooray! Thanks as always to Gringo and Mickey for putting it all together. Dig it.

Swap Meet Grabs

Got up early and dragged myself out to the Swap in Anoka. They opened the doors a little early and I slipped in with the old heads. Scored some cheap necessities and I think I found a good local used parts friend in one of the vendors. Picked up a complete midset pegs/ brake pedal set up and a polished open-primary alternator cover for $20 bucks. I even rummaged up a a little chromed front air scoop (Drag style). Maybe it will end up on the shovelhead project but that remains to be seen. It’s still early. If you were on the fence about going… go. Still some good stuff on the tables when I left.

Save A Buck ~ Fix it

The sh*t I’ll do to save some scratch is pretty low. My XS timing chain snapped on me while bombing back into the Twin Cities last September. After I pulled the top end off, I could see that the teeth on the cam were perfect. The crank sprocket on the other hand… DESTROYED. Not a single tooth left. Unfortunately, this crank sprocket is an obsolete part meaning I’m up sh*t creek. My options are wait it out forĀ  an old xs motor on Craigs list for around $100 beans or just swap the crank and buy a gasket set on eBay.

I went with the replacement crank and a gasket set. The crank ran me $1.99 and the gasket set… $60. Other than an hour of open heart surgery, at least I know I’m running a clean motor with new timing chain and gaskets. The top end was still well within tolerances so I’m gonna let sleeping dogs lie with that one.
